Classical Education English instruction centers around the reading of age-appropriate classical literature, which aligns with the themes we are studying in our history class. By connecting history and works of fiction depicting the same time period, students not only learn about the dates, places, and people from history, but they get to explore what life was like through the heroes, villains, and everyday people that experienced history. The historical fiction novels in this series include: -Brave New World - The Outsiders - Les Miserables - Slaughterhouse 5 - Life of Pi - Catch 22 These novels have been picked and taught from kindergarten to 12th to ensure they match your childs grade-level reading skills but raise the bar and teach rigorously. Each novel we selected has a corresponding lesson card which gives you enough of an outline to explore the month-long story fully. Lesson cards include: - Guiding questions on the novels Time and Place - Prompts to explore the Authors Intent or Voice - Exploration of Themes, Plots, or Characters - Vocabulary words aligned to the novel, grade-level words, or Latin root words to explore. We include a featured Value and Virtue, and by adding the accompanying Value and Virtue Lesson Cards, you can explore the rights and wrongs or good and evil in the characters of the story and how they may apply to your childs life today. Also included in the Ethos Logos English Lesson Card series are 8 to 10 recitation cards made up of over 100 of the top poems from history. Explore the works of Longfellow, Yates, Langston Hughes, Walk Whitman, Emily Dickenson, Robert Lewis Stevenson, and many more. Classical Education involves not only studying and analyzing great works but committing them to memory and practicing presentation skills.
