This is a single stamp as pictured (centering may differ from stock photo) * * * Issued in 1929 the Post Office Dept. celebrated the 50th anniversary of the capture of Vincennes from the British. George Rogers Clark, a brigadier general from Virginia, was best known for his capture of Vincennes, Indiana in February 1779. This greatly weakened British influence in the Northwest Territory. Because the British ceded the entire Northwest Territory to the United States in the 1783 Treaty of Paris, Clark has often been hailed as the "Conqueror of the Old Northwest."
