On May 17th, 1992 in New York, NY., the USPS celebrated the 200th anniversary of the New York Stock Exchange. Originally called the Buttonwood Agreement, the NYSE was founded in 1792 by a group of brokers and dealers in stocks and bonds who met regularly under a tree in Manhattan to conduct business. Today, it is the leading securities marketplace and plays a principal role among the world's financial institutions.
